Parent Guide to Support Services at East Sussex College
We are delighted to welcome your young person to the new academic year at East Sussex College! Whether they are just starting their journey with us or returning for another year, we are here to support them every step of the way.
These web pages outline the key areas of support available to students and how you can help them make the most of their time with us.
Spring Term: Focus on Work Placements
This Spring Term is an important opportunity for your young person to take action and secure a work placement linked to their studies or career ambitions.
Why work placements matter:
✔ Connect learning to the real world – Students apply classroom knowledge in practical settings.
✔ Explore career options – Gain insight into roles and industries they’re interested in.
✔ Build real-world skills employers are looking for – Communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability.
✔ Boost future applications – Colleges, universities, and employers value hands-on experience.
How you can help:
Encourage your young person to log in to Navigate and request their placement.
Discuss their career interests and help identify suitable employers.
Use your network – Family, friends, and local businesses often provide great opportunities.
Deadline: Placement requests must be submitted by 31st January 2026 or at least 4 weeks before the placement starts.
You will be sent confirmation of your young person’s placement arrangements once the college has carried out the required checks with the employer.
We ask if you have any questions or concerns regarding your young person attending the placement you contact us within 48hours of the placement start date.
