Parent Guide to Support Services at East Sussex College

We are delighted to welcome your young person to the new academic year at East Sussex College! Whether they are just starting their journey with us or returning for another year, we are here to support them every step of the way.

These web pages outline the key areas of support available to students and how you can help them make the most of their time with us.

These pages are new and will be regularly updated throughout the academic year, so please check in as often as you can.

We have located this information for parents within our My Student Life site so that you can see all the information, activities and updates we share with students. You can access My Student Life via the tabs at the top of this page

Settling In Support

Starting college can be a big transition.  Our teams focussed on supporting your young person to settle in are:

  • Study Programme Tutors who will be your young person’s main contact for support at college

  • Personal Development & Wellbeing Mentors who are there for extra support with anxiety and mental health

  • Additional Learning Support for advice and support for young people with learning difficulties or disabilities

  • Enrichment Co-ordinators encouraging students to sign up to a wide range of clubs, societies and Freshers events

If your young person is finding the transition into college challenging, please encourage them to speak to their Study Programme Tutor or visit Student Services.

Right Choice Support

Whilst we always encourage students to remain on their chosen course, we understand that a small number may feel it is not the right fit for them. If this is the case, we ask that students speak with their Study Programme Tutor as a first step. There may be adjustments or support we can offer to help them stay on track.

If, after discussion, a change of course is still being considered, the Study Programme Tutor will refer the student to our Careers & Employability team. They can provide further guidance and support in exploring alternative options.
