Fact of the Week:

When did Black History Month start?  

The first Black History Month in the UK took place in 1987, the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the Caribbean.  

Business Spotlight of the Week:

Afrori Brighton

Afrori Books is Brighton’s only Black-owned independent bookstore, founded in 2021 by Carolynn Bain to provide a dedicated space for books by Black authors. The shop offers a diverse selection spanning fiction, non-fiction, children's literature, poetry, and more. It also serves as a community hub, hosting events such as anti-racism workshops, author talks, and cultural programs.

TAKE TEN TODAY

Any time, any day, take 10 minutes to read once a week and get a stamp on your loyalty card from the Library Team.

How it works:

  • Come to the Library to choose from a selection of great books and reading resources.

  • Read for 10 minutes.

  • Collect a TAKE TEN Reward Card from the Library desk. Get a stamp for each week that you read towards a free drink.

    *Maximum of one stamp per week.
