    What could we do better?

    You Said: We would like more trips out in the summer term, such as going to a museum, a zoo, bowling.

    We Will: We will plan trips out during the summer term, students will be able to make suggestions. Residential to PGL, Windmill Hill is taking place in May. Students have opportunities to take part in trips in the local community most weeks

    You Said: Sometimes events/stalls pack up in the Atrium before the advertised end time.

    We Will: Staff have contacted Dan Glover to make him aware. Allsorts LGBT+ services which was advertised and finished early, staff contacted them and arranged for John Ward to do a presentation to Inclusive Learning, booked 24th April.

    You Said: We want to be able to use the gym more.

    We Have: We have contacted the HOC for sports to request. Inclusive Learning Hoc is discussing with Sports HOC about the availability of sports venues for future use, Horntye has been identified for shared use from September 2024

    You Said: We would like bins for recycling in our area

    We Did: There are new recycling bins located outside but close to the area which students have been shown and are encouraged to use. Students have been informed that there are recycling bins in various locations on all levels of Station Plaza.

    You Said: We need more art supplies

    We Will: Regularly order art supplies and keep a range of art resources in the department. Students can ask teachers if there is something that we do not have that they would like to be ordered, we can assess if it is a reasonable request/cost. The admin team are very helpful at researching for resources when we request them.

    You Said: We would like headphones for ICT

    We Have: Discussed hygiene and suggest that students bring their own headphones to college

    You Said: We need more laptops and the ones we have need updating. Some students would like to have iPads

    We Have: We have reported when laptops need updating/not working using the helpdesk, IT department respond regularly, usually within a day. Manager will ask finance if there is money in the budget for new laptops/iPads.

    • Breaks are good but could be longer

    • Enjoying the course and the college environment, classes are the right size

    • Food in the canteen is good and facilities are good

    • The Step-up course is good and helps me to progress

    • Harrison deserves praise for being a good teacher – understanding and calm

    • Staff support us very well (James Powell), I enjoy English (Kyle Busson), I enjoy maths and English (Billy Redpath). All staff are great: John, Sam and Belinda

    • Lesson topics are beneficial, you are enjoying Drama, digital skills and art

    • You like seeing friends again and social time

    • You get assistance for individual needs

    • You like Station Plaza better than Ore Valley

    • Kirsten Cornforth needs praise: they are always positive, cheerful and supportive, Harrison: he is friendly when he talks to us.

    What could we do better?

    You Said: You would like more vending machines on different floors – better value

    We Will: We support students to access local shops where they are able to shop for goods which are better value for money than the vending machines.

    You Said: You would like better resources for enrichment

    We Will: Be meeting with Student Experience co-ordinator for Hastings on 7/12/23 to discuss the enrichment offer and resources for Inclusive Learning

    You Said: We would like more off-site trips

    We Have: Arranged trips – December: Pantomime at the White Rock Theatre and PGL in March 2024. Most students have regular opportunities to take part in trips in the local community. We are planning trips for the end of the year activity week and will be asking students for their suggestions

    You Said: You would like the font changed on power points and hand out slides on enlarged sheets

    We Will: Liaise with staff, however teachers and support staff refer to information about individual student support needs such as their EHCPs to ensure that resources are adapted appropriately. Any additional requests for adapted teaching and learning resources have been shared with the teachers and LSAs.

    You Said: There are too many room changes for maths & English. It becomes confusing

    We Have: Confirmed the groups for English and maths now following some issues with completing the initial assessment. All students have been assigned a room for their maths and English lessons.

    You Said: You would like to have working laptops that are available to everyone.

    We Have: Put in requests to fix broken laptops on the IT help desk

    You Said: You would like more support in classrooms for all lessons

    We Have: Recruited four new LSAs for the department and will continue to recruit new staff throughout the year (as needed)

    We Have: Bought new, clearly labelled recycling bins that are available on every level of the building.

    You Said: Education of some staff about Autism is limited

    We Will: Work with People’s Services for staff development/training opportunities.

    You Said: Breakfast time finishes too soon

    We Have: Offered for students to make hot drinks and toast using the facilities in the department if they miss breakfast.

    You Said: Lunch break is not really long enough

    We Have: Asked students if they would prefer to have a longer lunch break and finish later at the end of the day. Most students do not want to have a later finish.

    You Said: After Rep meeting nothing seems to be put in place or changed. Can effective effort be put to changing things, not just asking us to talk about it?

    We Have: Implemented changes as a result of student feedback, which will be shown on posters around the college.

    You Said: You would like more access to kitchens, so you can do cooking

    We Have: Met with the Head of Curriculum for the catering department to ask if we can have access to the catering kitchens later in the year when spaces become available. Some students have cooking sessions timetabled in our department Home-Skills area.

    We Have: Discuss with our estates team, and will provide an update on what can be done to your course rep

    We Will: Buy a football table to have in our break room
