    • Timetable changes have had a really positive impact on our structured days. We feel we are learning more and have more 1 to 1 time in our lesson with our tutor as now not every lesson is shared with the level 2 group.

    • The tree outside kings has been removed .

    • More exam retakes have been implemented.

    • Hours on the course have not been changed or improved but we understand this is not possible. We hope it is possible for the adult group next year.

    Since our last meeting what is going well / who else needs praise?

    • Timetable change that was implemented from the last learner voice meeting is a positive change.

    • Lee Adams needs praise as he is getting more comfortable in his teaching methods and delivering good demonstrations.

    • Now the students are further through the year they feel that are able to learn more around level 3 skills and be more independent.

    • Students feel the course is going well for 90% of the class, a couple of students not so, but this is down to their lack of interest and commitment

    • Students feel they are all making really good progress.

    • Praise needs to go to Janine Reed (for support) , Emma Stahr (for organisation and course management) & Lee Adams (for 1 to 1 support with client workshops) for all their hard work and determination.

    • Good teaching on the course - Emma is doing very well managing the course, students are just struggling with how little time there is on the course.

    • Exam results were given with the topic of result if lower grades happened - students found this really helpful and would like this moving forward as good practice.

    • Supportive group and very supportive teacher - Emma always checks in with students throughout the class environment and this is having a positive impact.

    • Pace of the course is very fast, students are learning a lot and this is an advantage as adults but still feel there needs to be more hours on the course.

    Are there still things that could we do better?

    You Said: Parking is still an issue for students - There seems to be a lot of work vans in the Kings car park; they may not have anything to do with the college.

    We Said: Tutors have made additional suggestions on various places to park in the surrounding areas which seem to be a success

    You Said: There are more clients in the session now and students feel that some students can handle two more clients and some need to work on one client and build two clients.

    We Did: This has been passed on to tutors who now have opened up more client appointments per session

    You Said: There is no person here or been booked in to sharpen scissors - The Scissor man needs booking in.

    We Have: Technicians booked a scissors sharpening company in and this was completed in April.

    You Said: Kits - Barbers would have liked more combs and the addition of pin tail combs. Barbers would also like plastic crocodile clips.

    We Have: This has been fed back to the technician and the adjustment will be made for new kits.

    You Said: Good delivery but lack of hours is making an impact on retaining the delivery. More hours on the course is needed. Course is too tight.

    You Have: Fed back to the head of curriculum to help ensure next year's class has more hours if possible too. Lists of all classes running through the week have been provided for students to book into to help have more hours on course for the assessment stages.

    You Said: More visual representation - a standardised video software to help with delivery and flip learning. Tutors are using more nearpod in sessions now to help with delivery.

    We Have: Tutors are looking at more digital resources that could be potentially purchased.

    You Said: Powerpoint presentation to be sent to learners before the class would be an advantage to help prepare for the lesson.

    We Said: This has been fed back to tutors who have now implemented this change.

    You Said: Equipment - students notice that kits are far better in barbering than in hairdressing. More clips are needed, aprons et.

    We Have: This has been fed back to technicians who have now looked at kits for the next academic year.

    You Said: Students are not being professional in client sessions.

    We Have: Tutors have been spoken with and assured that behaviour will be monitored and tackled where appropriate.

    You Said: Client experience - students are not taking clients, they would rather do block heads and consequences need to happen.

    • Improved revision sessions-as we have regular revision sessions in theory classes, there are also, interactive quizzes to help us remember labelling of diagrams

    • The changing room is now being decorated which is good news.

    What is going well / Who needs praise?

    • We like our teachers, and the technician Ann is supportive

    • We enjoy our client workshop sessions

    What could we do better?

    • The Well has become very busy- all seats are often taken which means there is nowhere to sit, we would prefer to have our own space as the area

    • Canteen should offer more healthy options;

    • We would like to buy food from Kings / catering area so that it is more convenient and healthier

    • Be informed of what treatment we are performing on clients the day before, so we can be more organised and prepared

    • The toilets are often vandalised not nice to use

  • What is going well / Who needs praise?

    • The course is good, we are learning a range of skills which we enjoy, there are lots of demonstrations which really help us!

    • We like the free breakfast- thank you!

    • Like the uniform options of a T-Shirt in place of a tunic- we also like the option of buying a hoodie/ Sweatshirt

    • Happy with our timetable- no long gaps and we come in 3 days a week, so we get a couple of days off.

    • Like the product ranges we are using- feels professional

    • Our teachers – Bev, Eileen and Ann the technician need praise as they are very helpful and supportive

    • Bev in Complimentary Therapies deserves praise as she is very organised, responds quickly and cares about us- pushes us to be our best

    • L2 Beauty- Are enjoying the practical work which has prepared us to work on clients and start out assessments

    • Adult Information / enrolment evening / informative session have better prepared us for enrolment, what to purchase and the qualification we would achieve.

    • We like that you offer short beauty courses to add to our treatment portfolio for example, Stone therapy, Indian head massage, Eyelash extensions and lash lift

    • Students are happy on the course and feel every supported by all teaching staff.

    • Students feel that course is well paced, and organisation and delivery is of a very good standard.

    • The Tutors have expert knowledge in their field and very good at delivery this knowledge in lessons.

    • The class feel very supported by all staff.

    • The class feel that Eileen Ripley needs praise for her delivery, passion and ongoing support.

    • The class feel that Ann the technician needs to be recognised for all her hard work ensuring the student have all the stock and clients they need.

    What could we do better?

    You Said: The hair salons look outdated and need modernising, the wash basins are uncomfortable, and the water pressure is poor therefore we cannot rinse off products easily. The chairs around the wash basin are not modern or comfortable and need updating

    We Will: Look to replace our basins and seating area in the new year. The hair team will discuss how the salons can become more appealing to our students and plan to improve the displays and vibe in the salons. The estates team will be informed of the water pressure issue and will address where possible.

    You Said: We would like more trips; we liked the London trip but would like more of this and to also have an end of year trip to Thorpe Park, to celebrate our achievements

    We Will: Look at adding additional trips to relevant to your hairdressing course and will plan for a celebratory end of year trip to Thorpe Park.

    You Said: Sometimes we lose items from our kit or need to top up out kits such a block, where do we get these items from?

    We Will: Arrange for our local retail company to come into college and sign you up so that you become a student member, we will also look to stock retail items at college for you to purchase for your convenience

    You Said: The resources for our course could be better- some of the electric couches are not working therefore not all students get to use a height adjustable couch, we would also like to use the saddle stools in lesson as this will support our posture better. Could the workbooks be printed in colour and possible bound, currently they look basic and cheap looking. We would also like some laminated routines to refer to in lessons rather that use our paper versions as they can get soiled during practical sessions

    We Will: Ensure that all electric couches are in working order and that there is a selection of saddle stool options in the salons. We will adapt our workbooks so that they are presented in a professional format or provide laminated routines to use in lessons

    You Said: We would like more help to understand how to use platforms such as Pro Portal and Google classroom, many of us found this confusing and not always clear on how to use them well, we also do not know who to ask if we have problems logging into networks from home.

    We Have: A dedicated platform to help students settle into the use of Google accounts- www.mystudentlife.co.uk we will also add to your Google classroom some guidelines on how to access/use IT platforms.

    You Said: We would like more seating options whilst at lunch or on break- (Inside and Outside) currently there is very limited spaces to sit and chat and eat

    We Will: Investigate alternative options on where you can spend your break time.

    You Said: Our changing room is not very inviting- and quite often there is a leak coming from the ceiling which has been there for a while, rubbish on the floor and the seating area is not sturdy (loose) there needs to be more seating in the changing rooms as we share this with the catering students

    We Have: Investigated the changing area and are working with the estates team to rectify the issue with the leak, we are also looking to build new seating area that is study and fit for your needs, we will look at adding recycling bins into the changing rooms so that students can access a bin in a convenient location.

    You Said: We would like more time learning theory as the current theory lesson is not enough time to fully understand knowledge-based tasks

    We Have: Reviewed how we deliver theory-based topics and will include aspects of theory into your practical lessons so that there are more opportunities for you to review and link theory so that you can apply this to your practical lessons.

    You Said: We would like to learn other skills within industry such as acrylic nails, gel polish and false lash application

    We Have: Designed a programme of short-day courses linked to the skills you value and enjoy, we will offer an enrichment session for gel polish, with the option to upgrade to a full qualification by working with the Gel Bottle Company *Fee applies. We also have a range of day workshops planned from February until the end of the academic year- on Lash lift, individual and Russian volume lashes *Fees applies

    You Said: We would like more information on what we are going to learn for the coming week so that we are better prepared for theory and practical lessons

    We Will: Add to the stream on the Google classroom what you will be learning for the week, we will also provide you with an overview of the topics you are going to study.

    You Said: Students fee they need more space when carrying out commercial/client’s sessions.

    We Have: Arranged for these classes to be move to KB016 which is a bigger room.

    You Said: Products/brand need to be improved.

    We Have: Set time aside to meet and discuss potential product change for new academic year. Changes have already been made in year to improve the quality of kits and we will continue to respond to your feedback.

    You Said: Makeup classes do meet the course criteria, but students feel they would like to be more inspired.

    We Have: Made plans to do inspirational work shops every few weeks which will also give tasters to level 3 knowledge.

    You Said: We want different make-up in the kits as they feel are poor quality.

    We Will: Look into other firms for makeup. Krylo is a professional make up brand so we will have discussions with the manufacturer as well.
