  • Are learners aware of what has been done based on their feedback from the first Meeting? Do they know how to access my Student Life to see the YSWD? Are they satisfied that the things that they said needed improving have improved?

    • Want a continuous programme of British Sign language to develop more comprehensive understanding

    • Would like a 3D Printer

    • No one looks at my student life. Why – don’t understand it. No need, no reason, no reminders. Would look if tutors reminded in class.

    • Catherine confirmed answers from this meeting will go on Google Classroom.

    • No smoking shelters outside the college

    • Asked for more trips and don’t feel this has not improved

    • Request for more quiet rooms has not been done

    • Steve (Security) needs praise – top security, says hi to all students no matter who they are, asks how your day is going and looks after everyone.

    • Praise to Emma too for being helpful

    • Timetables are good; most days run from 9am – 1pm which suits students with them not having to get up too early which is really good.

    • Level 2 enjoyed projects. Everyone needs praise.

    • All classmates said that they feel like everything is going well in the class and they feel like they fit in and have started to find their feet. They love the work they have been doing. Especially as now, they are becoming more independent, we can express ourselves more in the work and have more freedom and choice allowing us all to take more control

    • Jane our tutor is someone who deserves praise. This is because we can all trust her and open to her knowing that she will support us through thick and thin. She also has introduced our class to mindfulness which really helps us relax and calm down and really understand our feelings and emotions. In Jane’s class we feel safe and able to show our true selves and overall, she is a good teacher. Jane is good because she helps in the way she gives advice such as what course to do next year and allows us to relax or have a break when we have worked hard

    • Lexi is another member of staff who deserves praise this is because when I don’t understand something or am struggling with my work Lexi will help me and point me in the right direction. Shis also another person I trust to talk to about any problems I may be having. When Lexi help me/us she doesn’t take over she helps me think of ideas then lets me explore the rest by myself ·

    • The LSAs who also work in the class such as Emma, Milly are also good as they help us all to understand our work especially in the research part which I find difficult. They also talk to me which stops me from feeling lonely ·

    • We have more equipment to experiment with and better quality colouring pens which means we can have different textures on our work ·

    • Praise for Vicky Kidd & Giles ·

    • Vicki very good teacher, communication improved. She makes sure students know what they are doing. Charles too, who is exceptionally patient

    What could we do better?

You Said: Tutorials can be overly critical at points and do not contain enough positive feedback

We Will: Review our feedback strategies and consider giving advice that contains more references to strengths and positivity in your work

You Said: We find it hard to disagree with advice and can feel demotivated

We Have: Create crit groups that will enable you to develop a stronger voice and opinion to be able to discuss your work. We will also improve our listening skills so that you can feel heard and motivated.

You Said: Communication about trips and projects need to improve We will review how the tutors communicate with each other and how we contact you and your parents, and update Google classroom and Tutorials with new information and tasks. ·

You Said: Our cupboards are bare and there aren’t enough resources We will stock your cupboards and ensure we have a range of new materials for you. In addition, we will remove old students work to give you more space.

You Said: The noise levels are too disruptive to work

We Will: Improve our management of classroom behaviours ·

You Said: Briefs are confusing and we don’t understand what need to do.

We Will: Re-draft our briefs so they are clearer and have a student friendly plan and list of tasks to complete for each project.

You Said: Not enough help for autistic students (ALS). Students who are meant to have help and not receiving any – more one to one help needed

We Will: Ask ALS or our TA for more support ·

You Said: Student needs bigger drawers, having to share as can’t fit all work in. Some students not cleared out last years work

We Will: Organise the drawers so everyone has space for storage ·

You Said: More communication between teachers about course structure – plan out what each teacher is doing. Find it confusing. What’s happening when/different dates from different tutors

We Will: Communicate better on announcements in tutorials and google Classroom

You Said: Neuro-diversity awareness lacking in teachers. More staff training needed and should include body language as often non verbal

We Will: Research some more approaches to neuro diversity.

    What could we do better?

You Said: Students have segmented and grouped into silos in early stages of the course, it would be good to see more integration and group activities to mix students

We Will: Be allocating students to crit groups where students will be able to mix, share opinions and debate across friendship groups.

You Said: The laptops are awful, it takes too long to log on and I cannot access the applications in a timely way
