The most successful placements are ones students source themselves.

  • Your tutors will give you support and guidance to help you self source your placements.

  • Your placement should:

  • Be relevant to your studies and/or career plan *

  • Be external to the College. We want as many students as possible to experience real work environments.

  • Enable you to develop your technical skills, increasing your competence and ability to progress into skilled employment

  • Develop your employability skills such as communicating, adapting to change and problem solving

  • Enable you to experience your own personal development: to develop self-reliance, build confidence and learn more about yourself to identify your strengths and preferences for your future career options.

  • The College has to make sure your chosen employer has the required health and safety and insurance requirements for student placements. This is to assure your safety. You must not start your placement until you have written confirmation from the College stating that the placement is approved.

  • Your employer must have up to date Employers' Liability Insurance.

  • One months' Notice is required for all placement request via Pro Portal

  • Talk to your potential employer about your tasks/duties at placement.

  • You will need to list some of the tasks/duties on your Navigate Placement Request

  • Evaluate how your tasks and duties relate to your studies / or career plan. You will need to log these onto Navigate.
